What better way to encourage people to band together than to face “bandits’ greed, deadly plague, mud and madness”? If that sounds like your idea of a good co-op time and not a team-building exercise straight from the deepest pits of hell, then you’ll want to keep your eyes on Nested Lands, a new multiplayer RPG from developer 1M Bits Horde and publisher META Publishing that’s entering early access on Friday, January 23rd.

Nested Lands is a medieval survival-settlement RPG set during the Black Death. Players start with nothing and must work to build a functioning village by gathering resources, enduring nasty plague outbreaks, and protecting their people from roaming bandits and unstable plague-twisted foes. Every choice affects the settlement’s future, and the world in-game reacts to the player’s choices accordingly. Between the responsibilities that come with leading a village, surviving a deadly outbreak, and the question of the main character’s own mental state and personal hygiene, what could go wrong?”

Players can choose to manage their dingy plague-welcoming settlement either solo or with friends, maintaining things like building upgrades, ally recruitment, peasant roles, and the threats of not only disease and banditry but harsh weather and overall settler satisfaction. Good times.

Ahead of the game’s arrival to early access, Nested Lands does have a playable demo that was given some major overhauls last August, while a multiplayer co-op test kicked off in mid-December, which is still taking registrants on Steam, though considering how close early access is, maybe just wait about a week if you’re curious.
