Blizzard is bringing Halloween to Diablo 4, but the upcoming event is far less inspired than we’d expect from the massive RPG dev. As Helldivers 2 releases a brand-new Warbond to celebrate the Spooky Season and The Finals goes all-out with the festivities, Blizzard’s offerings are a bit less exciting.
Nevertheless, the fact that there is a Diablo 4 Halloween event this year is still exciting. After all, with the underwhelming Vessel of Hatred resulting in tonnes of nerf patches and reward fixing after launch, it’s nice that some time has been given to the annual holiday.
Diablo 4 lacks the Halloween Spirit
Confirmed in a new blog post from Blizzard, the Diablo 4 Halloween 2024 event has been dubbed “Meat or Treat”. A four-day event, the game will dish our a new free cosmetic in the Cosmetic Store from October 29th until November 1st 2024.
From the 29th, Diablo 4’s shrines will not only dish out the usual temporary buffs during this period, but will also give out a “surprise effect”.
“Any Shrine in a Dungeon can apply a surprise effect in addition to its usual effect when activated. Will the Shrine bestow unexpected riches upon you, or will your Dungeon run go up in smoke?” reads the official description of the event.
Alongside the arrival of these cursed shrines, the Halloween event also involves The Butcher at in an unspecified role. While the iconic Diablo boss’ role has yet to be fully explored, there is a chance that one of the random effects will require players to square off against the hulking beast.
It could’ve been so much more
While the arrival of at least some additional content for the Halloween holiday is nice, the event could’ve been so much cooler. Unique Halloween mobs or some unique spooky-themed weapons would’ve been awesome to see, but its nice that Blizzard has added anything at all.
